10 GOOD REASONS FOR HOLDING EVENTS IN PRAGUE
- PRAGUE, A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE:
The city is almost a textbook of architecture as one can find all building styles in Prague - from the Romanesque right through to the latest Gehry creation. Prague is also home to other remarkable styles almost impossible to find anywhere else in the world, such as Cubism. In fact Prague has entire streets built in the Cubist style.
- ACCESSIBILITY:
You can easily fly direct to Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, from all other European capitals in one or two hours. And once you arrive at the city, the hotels, major attractions, confernece centres and other venues are just a few minutes away or in may cases within walking distance.
- HISTORY:
Almost no other city in Europe can boast as a rich history as Prague. Founded in the 9th century, it was the seat of Charles IV and Rudolf II who held the titles of Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia. During these periods in the 14th and 17th centuries the city played a central role in shaping the history of Europe. Centuries of peaceful co-existence between Germans, Czechs and Jews from a wide variety of origins has a strong influence on the city.
- ACCOMMODATION:
Prague has plenty of overnight accommodation in all price categories. All the major hotel chains are represented in Prague. There are also a large number of historic and modern venues for holding events that are equipped with the latest conference facilities.
- VENUES:
From a medieval villa through imposing palaces to modern exhibition halls - those and many more you can find in Prague and its surroundings. Whether you are planning a meeting, reception or a formal dinner Prague offers a wide choice of exquisite locations which will turn your event into an unforgettable experience.
- MUSIC:
Prague was, and still is a city of music. Every day you have a wide choice of classical and modern concerts - and the Prague jazz cellars are also rightly famous. Prague has always been a destination for famous musicians and composers. Smetana, Dvorak, Mozart and Fibich all lived here and many more came to visit, including Beethoven, Chopin and Tchaikovsky.
- CULTURE:
Whether you're in Prague for a day, a week or a month, you'll be astounded by the selection of cultural treasures on offer here. One of the largest libraries in the world is housed in the Strahov Monastery and contains over six million books, some of which are absolutely priceless. The National Gallery house large collections from all eras of art history. ANd in the exhibition rooms of Prague Castle you can admire the works of Dutch, French and Flemish masters.
- GASTRONOMY:
Good food and drink are important when travelling - and if your guests like beer, you couldn#t do better than bring them to the Czech Republic, the home of Pilsner Urquell, the real Budweiser, Krusovice, Prazan, Kozel and 100 other types of beer from small private breweries. The Bohemian cuisine is tasty and substantial. However, you'll find plenty of restaurants that offer nouvelle cuisine - and many of our native chefs have received international awards.
- LITRATURE AND ITS CREATORS:
Many visitors come to visit locations that still bear the traces of Franz Kafka. If you walk through the streets of the still-sleeping city early in the morning, you can experience it just as Kafka prtrayed it in his books - mysterious and secretive. Kafka once described Prague as having claws. Once she seized you in her grip, she would never let go. In the Czech language the city of Prague is feminine and her "female" virtues have often been extolled by writers such as Seifert, Werfel, Kundera and others.
- A PULSATING METROPOLIS:
Prague is the window to the East and just what you'd imagine a pulsating metropolis to be. It's home to many Americans, English, Scandinavians and a wide variety of other nationalities. Many experienced jouranalists say today's Prague is similar to Paris as it was some 30 years ago - young, dynamic and pulsating. After Paris, Prague is the most visited city in Europe.
